GPACG Minutes from 17 April 1999

Attending were Vincent Vaughn, Peggy Kennedy, Brenna Sharp, Annika Johnson and Ula Cimmiyotti. Mike Shkolnik arrived late.

The minutes from the March 20 meeting read and accepted.

President's Report:

The ICG does not have a bank account yet; they are currently working on setting it up. The ICG Treasurer will send the information to all branches when it is completed.

The March President's Message was received by e-mail and a copy was given to the Secretary for our records, as well as the contact information for the 1999 Board of Directors.

Peggy and Brenna went to several new stores including Mona's Ethnic Fabrics and Fabric World. Reviews of these stores will be included in the Costumers' List of Local Suppliers.

Vice President's Report:

No activity.

Secretary's Report:

No activity.

Treasurer's Report:

As of this time, we have one new member, SevMer Computers.
I have received no bills this month.
Our total is $187.41 of which $83 is waiting to be sent to the ICG.
I am still waiting for informatio from the ICG Treasurer for sending the ICG dues upline and for creating an account under their non-profit status.

Editor's Report:

We need to purchase stamps - Annika volunteered to buy stamps this time.
We are not on the ICG web page yet - Brenna will check on this.
The GPACG web page will be available for viewing in the craft section today.
Cover art is needed for upcoming publications, if you have any pictures please, please, please forward them to Brenna.

We can rent light sets for photo shoots for $65/day, however if we pick it up on Friday night and return it on Monday morning that is considered 1 day as the shop, Pro Photo Supply, is closed over the weekend. There was interest in setting up a photo weekend. (See Photo Shoot on page 4.)

Old Business:

Vincent and Brenna will be ordering from the special effects catalog this weekend, please let them know if you want anything.
We all need to keep thinking of names for a regional costume convention. Peggy printed a list of synonyms for costume and convention to think about.

New Business:

The editor needs articles for publication.
We are also looking for suggestions for group outings. Mike suggested The Crypt in Beaverton, a year round Halloween costume shop.
It was suggested to have our regional costume con in May of 2001. We should start looking for hotels that meet our needs.
It was also suggested that we make a survey sheet to find the level of interest for a regional costume convention and what subjects/panels would be good. We could place them on the flyer tables at OryCon, WesterCon, NorWesCon, etc. with a drop box for the completed forms.

Should we accept business memberships? Sevmar Computers has given Brenna $20 for a membership even though we do not have a business membership system in place. After a lengthy discussion on their unacceptable business practices and the fact that we have no format for business memberships, it was decided to refund their $20 and offer them regular membership.

It was also moved and accepted to change the meeting date to the 2nd Saturday of every month to let the Secretary and the Editor update the newsletter in time for the 1st of the month publication date. Also the time of the meeting was changed to 11:00 am. The editor will publish a large notice of the changed date/time in Critical Measure.

This concluded the business section of the meeting.

Craft Session:

The webpage was viewed from floppy disk on Peggy's computer. However, at that point, Brenna (the webpage writer) realised that while she uses a screen resolution of 1024 x 768, not everybody else does. (Oops...) While it was readable, it didn't look the way it was supposed to. (For further information on this, see GPACG Webpage on page 7.)

GPACG Minutes from 8 May 1999

Attending were Peggy Kennedy, Annika Johnson, Lydia Sharp, Vincent Vaughn, Bryan Whitlow, Eve Morgan, and Brenna Sharp.

The Secretary, Ula Cimmiyotti, is out of town. Brenna Sharp, as Editor, will be taking minutes.

The minutes from the April 17 meeting read and accepted.

President's Report:

No activity other than busily costuming house and garden. As the ICG President's Message doesn't come out until roughly the 15th of the month, they will be presented the following month from now on.

Vice President's Report:

Sent email to the ICG webmaster asking that our chapter be listed on thew webpage. Got no response. Sent email to the ICG President asking him to look into this.

Secretary's Report:

Not present. No activity, no report.

Treasurer's Report:

I have refunded SevMer Computers their $20 membership and invited them to join as individual members rather than as a business I accordance to the decision made at the April 1999 meeting not to allow business memberships at this time.
I have received no bills this month.
Our total is $167.41, of which $74 is waiting to be sent to the ICG.
I still have not received any information on where to send our ICG membership dues and on how to create an account under their non-profit status.
I would like to have a full copy of the ICG By-Laws.

Editor's Report:

I need stamps. (Some general discussion regarding our webpage ensued but yours truly didn't take good notes during this part. Oops.)

Old Business:

The regional costume convention that we've been talking about now has a temporary name, at least. It was unanimously voted to accept Portland Costume Symposium as a working title.
Brenna and Eve will make up flyers to be distributed that will poll just what topics people in various costuming genres are interested in.
Some possible speakers were discussed but it was decided to hold off on that until we had a better idea of what other people were interested in.
There was also general discussion on possible locations and registration capping.

New Business:

Group outing were discussed. Possibilities are the English Tea Shop and the Button Emporium here in town; Maryhill Museum outside of Goldedale, WA (Brenna will check into hours, etc.); Mount Angel Library and Museum; and some kind of Star Wars outing.

Vincent reminded us that after the business portion of the last meeting was closed, there was talk of a logo for the GPACG. Annika had suggested something involving the statue Portlandia and after some ideas were bounced around, the concept of Portlandia holding a cloth in her lowered hand and a pair of scissors in her raised had was accepted. vincent volunteered to do the artwork and also will contact the original artist and the Portland Chamber of Commerce regarding copyright questions.

It was decided to have a showing of the movie "Elizabeth" at the next meeting. Either Lydia will buyia copy or Brenna and Vincent will rent one.

This concluded the business section of the meeting.

Craft Session:

Peggy showed the wallpaper and curtain fabric she will be using in her office. Lots of general socialising, too.

GPACG Minutes from 20 June 1999

Attending were Vincent Vaughn, Peggy Kennedy, Brenna Sharp, Annika Johnson, Ula Cimmiyotti, Lydia Sharp, and Mike Shkolnik.

The minutes from the May 8 meeting read and accepted as intended. (There were typos. Sorry. - Ed.)

President's Report:

Peggy received email from Byron; there will be no President's Message this month (May) as he is taking a vacation. The President's Message for April was read.

Vice President's Report:

By-Laws - Ula and I have still not had a chance to get together to work on this. She's entered into her busy season but I hope to shanghai her this month for a bit.
They will work on them on 23 June.

Secretary's Report:

Will work on By-Laws.

Treasurer's Report:

I have received no bills this month.
$74 was sent to the ICG this month which brings our total down to $93.41.
I have not received any information on how to create an account under their non-profit status and am discussing the matter with the Vice President of our chapter who has had experience in this area.

Editor's Report:

Critical Measure - The June issue was late due to a bundle of unexpected sewing that needed to be done before the end of May.

ICG Web site - We still are not listed on the "Local Chapters" page. John O'Halloran, the webmaster, has been very busy with his regular job and apparently has no ICG deputy.

GPACG Web site - Work continues on the site in general and the screen resolution problem in particular. A fully working copy should be available for viewing at the next meeting. (As the next meeting will be at Maryhill Museum, look for this at the August meeting. - Ed.)

Old Business:

Vincent has not contacted the artist that created Portlandia for the rights to use the statue as a basis for our logo. Ula will look on the web for information on the artist and pictures of Portlandia. Vincent will start sketching "Glitziana" in Portlandia's pose with scissors and fabric.

Group outings: Brenna has gotten information on Maryhill Museum and the exhibits showing at this time. We moved to hold the next meeting (10 July 1999) at Maryhill. We will carpool down and have a picnic lunch during the meeting and afterwards tour the Museum. (Please see article on page 4.)

Eve and Brenna have not been able to get together to work on the flyers/polling form for our regional costume convention, the Portland Costume Symposium.

New Business:

No new business.

This concluded the business section of the meeting.

Craft Session:

We watched "Elizabeth" and picked apart the costuming and lack of historical accuracy regarding the events depicted. Great fun, we should do it more often.
