The Portland Science Fiction Society started gathering together in 1977 but wasn't officially incorporated until 1978 which, incidentally, was the same year as The Portland Science Fiction Symposium now half-playfully known as "OryCon 0".

Although many PorSFiS members were also OryCon committee members in the beginning, Oregon Science Fiction Conventions, Inc (OSFCI) was formed almost immediately and was incorporated in 1979. There are still cross-over members but the two groups, PorSFiS and OSFCI, are two separate organizations ... okay, entities. (Sometimes, the word 'organization' seems a bit far-fetched.)
